HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that supervising art director Brandt Gordon has joined the production team of Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley. Brandt previously worked with del Toro on his gothic romance horror flick Crimson Peak, which starred Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, and Jessica Chastain.
The remake is Guillermo’s first feature film since winning Best Director and Best Picture Oscars for The Shape of Water.
The film is based on the 1947 Fox movie that starred Tyrone Power as an ambitious young con-man who hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the table on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.
His other credits include Shazam!, Suicide Squad, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, Total Recall remake, and RoboCop remake. Gordon also worked on some additional scenes for the IT remake as well.
We previously revealed the production team would include cinematographer Dan Laustsen (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, The Shape of Water) and production designer Tamara Deverell (The Strain, Star Trek: Discovery).
Leonardo DiCaprio was originally in the mix for the lead role but has reportedly been offered to Bradley Cooper (American Sniper, A Star Is Born) instead.
HN reported that filming will begin on September 30th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is expected to wrap on January 28th.
Fox Searchlight has yet to give Nightmare Alley an official release date.
