Two more actors have been revealed for the Sopranos prequel film. Variety reports that Ant-Man actor Corey Stoll and Aladdin’s Billy Magnussen have taken roles in The Many Saints of Newark, the prequel is at New Line Cinema with Alan Taylor set to direct as production will begin in the spring.
Corey Stoll and Billy Magnussen are set to join the ensemble of the “The Sopranos” movie prequel, “The Many Saints of Newark.” They join Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, and Vera Farmiga, who had previously been added to the cast. More players from the “Sopranos” lore are expected to be coming on board.
While we know that Alessandro Nivola will be playing Christopher’s father Dickie, the roles being handed out to Stoll, Magnussen, Jon Bernthal, and Vera Farmiga are a little less clear.
Set in the era of the Newark riots in the 60s. That was a time when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and amongst the gangsters of each group, those conflicts became especially lethal.
HN Entertainment recently dropped some exclusive character details about the film and that New Line Cinema was interested in Lady Gaga for a supporting role. Gaga had previously made a small cameo in the original HBO series before becoming a famous musician.
We also revealed that production in New York/New Jersey will begin on April 3rd and wrap around June 10th.
An official release date for The Many Saints of Newark has yet to be announced by New Line Cinema/Warner Bros.
