The Continental hotel from the John Wick films is one seriously interesting building becoming a character itself which has led to Starz giving the international hotel chain (New York City, Rome, and Casablanca hotels established) a spinoff television series.
The hotel includes a speakeasy bar with a jazz band, stunning rooftop garden, body disposal department in the furnace room, and other corners that have yet to be explored on the big screen.
We’ve stumbled across amazing blueprint artwork of The Continental posted by concept artist Sebastian Meyer, who worked on John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum which has given us some new glimpses into what other services and entertainment the hotel offers.
Along with somewhat establishing what the building’s layout ultimately looks like.
Of course, while you can’t conduct business aka kill anyone on The Continental premises, it looks like you’re free to hone your shooting skills with their on-site shooting range which is located almost at the very top floor of the building. Thankfully this seems to have some distance from the residential portion of the hotel.
Under that level are the bathhouse (not to be confused with the Red Circle club) and the hospital.
Below that is the operations, communications, and library. This would essentially be where you see accounts payable and where the contracts are drawn up for the global assassinations by a bevvy of heavily tattooed women referred to as The Suicide Girls (a reference to the tattooed pin-up website).
One of the big standouts that we haven’t seen is the boxing room, that likely would feature underground fights. Given the house rules, these matches are unlikely to the death but I would imagine there would be a lot of gambling with coins going on.
You can see from this concept art from Sebastian Meyer, that they had originally planned on showing the boxing room in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and from this image suggests the fights could be bare-knuckle.
It would certainly feed into the weird machismo entertainment habits of these assassins.
Below the boxing room is the furnace room which we saw in Parabellum doubles as their body disposal department, led by Charlie (played by David Patrick Kelly) and his team first seen in the original film.
In Parabellum, we first see the Armory which Winston (played by Ian McShane) uses as a panic room via a vault door when The Adjudicator (played by Asia Kate Dillion) sends in High Table assassins.
The Armory is located right next to the hotel’s Winery.
One of the cooler additions added in Parabellum is the hotel’s Lobby aka Atrium which includes a fantastic looking bar, a lounge, and has barber services as well.
Another visually interesting part of the hotel is the manager’s office aka The Glass House which was used for one of the final action sequences in the film between John and Zero (played by Mark Dacascos).
The building also features a unique underground tunnel just below the subway line which is sandwiched between the tunnel and the speakeasy seen in the original film where Addy (played by Bridget Regan) is bartending and John first reunites with Winston.
Another piece of concept art from Meyer reveals a very different scene where Wick has his finger cut-off and has two new tattoos added to his back by Russian gangsters (don’t seem to be defined as Belorussians yet).
John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to begin shooting sometime this year but likely will start later in the year as Keanu Reeves has just begun production on Matrix 4 in California last week and will likely be busy with that until the summer.
We last saw John and The Bowery King (played by Laurence Fishburne) agreeing to go to war with The High Table.
Director Chad Stahelski is set to return and Lionsgate has already given Chapter 4 an official release date of May 21st, 2021.
After gunning down a member of the High Table — the shadowy international assassin’s guild — legendary hit man John Wick finds himself stripped of the organization’s protective services. Now stuck with a $14 million bounty on his head, Wick must fight his way through the streets of New York as he becomes the target of the world’s most ruthless killers.
