Variety reports that comedic actor and Texan Luke Wilson has joined the growing cast of Sony’s Zombieland sequel titled Zombieland: Double Tap in an undisclosed role, but it’s expected to be human. His film credits include The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Old School, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, and Idiocracy.
Wilson will be joining fellow cast members Woody Harrelson (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Jesse Eisenberg (Batman v Superman, The Social Network), Emma Stone (The Favourite, Amazing Spider-Man, Superbad), Abigail Breslin, Zoey Deutch, Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley, Godzilla: King of Monsters), Rosario Dawson (Daredevil, Sin City), and Avan Jogia.
In the sequel, the zombie slayers must face off against new kinds of living dead that have evolved since the first movie, as well as new human survivors. They have to also deal with the growing pains of their own makeshift family.
The sequel has Venom director Ruben Fleischer along with Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick reuniting. Zombieland: Double Tap’s script also has work from Wonder Woman 1984 and Shang-Chi screenwriter Dave Callaham.
HN Entertainment recently revealed the production has added Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol stunt coordinator Markos Rounthawite (will also be the 2unit director) and Avatar 2 special effects supervisor J.D. Schwalm. These two crew members would suggest the film is going to be a lot bigger in scale than the original.
Filming began last month and is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia where the original was shot.
Sony Pictures has set the release date of Zombieland: Double Tap for October 11, 2019.
