While speaking with Josh Horowitz on his podcast HappySadConfused, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood cinematographer Robert Richardson jokingly talked about the Batman rumor mix-up along with revealing a long-rumored detail about Ben Affleck’s incarnation of the solo Batman film (the two had previously worked together on Live By Night).
Ben Affleck was indeed planning on setting the movie inside Arkham Asylum.
RICHARDSON: “I wanted to shoot Batman with Ben [Affleck] cause that was the next film we had. There was a script, but not a loved script. There was a lot of work he was doing to it to change it.”
“Well, he was going into the more insanity aspects.”
“He was entering more into the Arkham, he’s going into where everyone was bad.”
HOROWITZ: I’m a comic book geek as you can imagine. We’ve never really seen Arkham Asylum.
RICHARSON: “No, and that’s where we were going. I was very interested in that one.”
Robert also mentions meeting with Tim Burton to be the cinematographer on his Nicolas Cage Superman movie back in the day as well.
A lot of what-ifs that are worth checking out by listening to the full podcast.
Matt Reeves is currently gearing up for The Batman to begin production next year with Robert Pattinson in the role of Bruce Wayne.
