Lee Pace (Halt and Catch Fire) and Jared Harris (Chernobyl) have been tapped as leads in Foundation, Apple TV+’s upcoming drama series based on Isaac Asimov’s science fiction novel trilogy.
The 10-episode series from David Goyer, Josh Friedman and Skydance Television chronicles the epic saga of The Foundation, a band of exiles who discover that the only way to save the Galactic Empire from destruction is to defy it.
Pace plays Brother Day, the current Emperor of the Galaxy. Harris plays Hari Seldon, a mathematical genius who predicts the demise of the empire.
The series will be directed by Rupert Saunders (Ghost In The Shell) after we learned he closed his deal with Apple.
We’ve confirmed that the production team will include cinematographer Steve Annis (I Am Mother), production designer Rory Cheyne (Locke and Key, Hannibal, American Gods), and art director William Cheng (Locke and Key, American Gods, The Shape of Water, Suicide Squad, Shazam!).
Asimov’s Foundation is the complex saga of humans scattered on planets throughout the galaxy, all living under the rule of the Galactic Empire. The protagonist is a psycho-historian who has the ability to read the future and foresees the empire’s imminent collapse. He sets out to save the knowledge of mankind from being wiped out.
HN Entertainment has reported that production will take place between November 11th and is expected to wrap on June 8th, 2020
There is an expectation that Foundation could begin airing on the streaming service sometime in late 2020 or early 2021.
Jared Harris has a role in Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man spinoff Morbius and is set to be released on July 31st, 2020.
