Gina Prince-Bythewood was originally attached to direct Sony Pictures’ Silver and Black a comic book movie featuring Spider-Man characters Black Cat and Silver Sable. In July, I first reported over at OmegaUnderground that she would be instead directing Skydance Media’s The Old Guard, an adaptation of the comic book from Greg Rucka (also penned the film’s script) and published by Image Comics.

Later it was confirmed that Netflix would grab it after I mentioned in my original reporting the streaming giant could get involved after the two teamed-up for Michael Bay’s 6 Underground starring Ryan Reynolds.

A small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy, who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.

HN Entertainment has learned that they’ve now added 2nd unit director Jeff Habberstad to the crew lineup. His recent credits include Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, and Iron Man 3. He also has had a lengthy stunt career in the industry as well, but it’s unknown if his role on the film will be expanded beyond the 2nd unit role but there is a chance.

Jeff’s stunt coordinator credits include Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, American Sniper, Iron Man 3, Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense, and There Will Be Blood. He even got on the Marvel train early doing some stunts on Wesley Snipes’ Blade and did some stunt work on James Cameron’s original Terminator.

Habberstad isn’t the only crew member added by Gina with serious comic book credits behind them as previously reported a majority of the key members have worked on some big ones. They include production designer Paul Kirby (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Hellboy) and fight choreographer Daniel Hernandez (Avengers: Endgame, Birds of Prey, Thor: Ragnarok, John Wick 1-3, Logan) from 87Eleven Action Design.

We recently were able to confirm that filming will take place at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England. Other filming locations are expected to include Paris and Morocco.

Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for The Old Guard.
