HN Entertainment has been able to confirm that costume designer Mary E. Vogt has joined the production team of Netflix’s The Old Guard movie, based on the Image Comics property. Mary’s extensive over the years credits include Crazy Rich Asians, Kong: Skull Island, Batman Returns, Men In Black, Hocus Pocus, and Men In Black 3.
She’ll be joining a lovely crew that consists of folks with extensive comic book movie experience with production designer Paul Kirby (Hellboy, Kingsman: The Secret Service), 2nd unit director Jeff Habberstad (Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and The Wasp), stunt coordinator Brycen Counts (Kong: Skull Island, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Spider-Man: Far From Home), and fight choreographer Daniel Hernandez (Logan, John Wick 1-3, Avengers: Endgame, Birds of Prey)
A small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy, who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.
Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Atomic Blonde), KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin), Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, Red Sparrow), and Italian actor Luca Marinelli have been confirmed for lead roles in the film.
Old Guard’s script was penned by its comics’ co-creator Greg Rucka and will be directed by Silver and Black’s former director Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball).
We’ve previously confirmed that filming on The Old Guard will take place at Shepperton Studios in the United Kingdom. Other locales are expected to include Morroco and France.
Netflix has yet to give the comic book action film a release date.
