The Suicide Squad, written and directed by James Gunn is set to kick-off production next month at Pinewood Atlanta Studios (confirmed by HN) in Fayetteville, Georgia and we have a small tidbit to share about the DC Comics movie.

Previously, there have been reports from GWW and Forbes that Benicio Del Toro (Sicario, Guardians of The Galaxy) is wanted for a villain role codenamed Mayor/General.

HN Entertainment has now learned James Gunn/Waner Bros. are casting a much smaller part of a “Central American President”, which could confirm that the setting may indeed take place in Central America.

They are looking for someone (Hispanic, Black or Middle-Eastern) distinguished and regal-looking between the ages of 40-50 to play the character and seemingly will be involved with at least two scenes in the movie.

UPDATE: We’ve now learned they are indeed setting the film in Panama, as they plan a shooting a club scene set there.

The returning cast is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag.

The new additions are reportedly Idris Elba, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, John Cena, and possibly Storm Reid as Elba’s daughter.

Figuring they’re all expendable, a U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of dangerous, incarcerated supervillains for a top-secret mission.

Warner Bros. has set the film’s release date for August 6th, 2021.
