According to Variety, Cate Blanchett is being eyed to join Bradley Cooper in Guillermo del Toro’s next feature flick, Nightmare Alley.
The acclaimed director is set to helm the project from a script by Kim Morgan and himself. He’s also producing and teaming up with Fox Searchlight once again to distribute the pic worldwide. The news does not stop there as Blanchett is not the only actress poised to join the star-studded cast.
Furthermore, Collider is reporting that Toni Collette is vying for a lead role while Rooney Mara is being looked at for a supporting character. The report adds that Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy) are also expected to reunite with Del Toro while Willem Dafoe and Mark Povinelli may also appear.
Nightmare Alley is a gritty noir novel hailing from William Lindsay Gresham published in 1946. It’s a study of the lowest depths of showbiz and its sleazy inhabitants – the dark, shadowy world of a second rate carnival filled with hustlers, scheming grifters, and Machiavellian femmes fatales.
As we previously reported, Del Toro is eyeing to start principal photography on the adaptation in January 2020. He’ll be heading to Canada in the winter while reuniting with cinematographer Dan Laustsen (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, The Shape of Water).
