Robert Eggers the writer/director of The Witch and The Lighthouse has chosen his next feature film as Deadline reports it will be a Viking revenge film set in Iceland titled The Northmen for New Regency.
The cast will include Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Last Night In Soho), Nicole Kidman (Destroyer), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Alexander Skarsgard (The Little Drummer Girl), and Bill Skarsgard (Cherry, IT, IT: Chapter Two).
Robert Eggers, the director behind the critically acclaimed horror film, The Witch, has potentially assembled a starry cast for his latest project, The Northman, set up at New Regency. Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård, The Witch’s Anja Taylor-Joy, Bill Skarsgård, and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe are in talks to star this film, which is being produced by Lars Knudsen (Hereditary, Midsommar).
The pic is described as Viking revenge saga set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century. Eggers penned the screenplay with Icelandic poet and novelist, Sjón.
It sounds like Eggers is a big fan of the Viking movies from director Hrafn Gunnlaugsson, who directed a string of gritty films shot on location in Iceland. Those titles were When The Raven Flies, In The Shadow of The Raven, and The White Viking.
Robert has shot both his movies in Canada and I have to assume that The Northmen will also spend some time there, but they’ll likely need to film some exterior shots in Iceland.
Eggers’ upcoming release is The Lighthouse starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe coming out on October 18th.
