According to BoxOfficeMojo, Bumblebee has earned $413.5 million, which is impressive as the Viacom CEO recently suggested Transformers: The Last Knight ended up losing Paramount Pictures at least $100 million.
On a budget of $132-135 million, Bumblebee certainly has moved into profit territory for the studio and its excellent reception from critics and audiences seems to have given the franchise new life after being mostly a punchline for the last decade.
There now seems to be some concrete reporting from Deadline that a sequel is now in development stages at Paramount. What that will ultimately look like is unclear as there has been some chatter of an Optimus Prime movie happening as well, Deadline suggesting a possible Prime/Bumblebee buddy team-up for this sequel.
Helmed by Travis Knight, the well-received picture reboots the Transformers series with humor and an emotional connection that’s been fed by great word of mouth. There’s a sequel in development (might that mean a Bumblebee/Optimus Prime buddy movie?).
Paramount Picture has be reevaluating other large properties they have with a Snake Eyes origin film seemingly taking G.I. Joe into a new direction and shooting in the spring along with a second Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot that could begin filming before the end of 2019.
It remains to be seen if director Travis Knight will return to the franchise.
