There have been tons of talks and rumor surrounding what will happen with the Transformers franchise, last years Bumblebee was a critic success and felt like a soft reboot from the Michael Bay films. However, we may not be done with Bays universe.
While promoting Bumblebee in Japan, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed a new movie is being developed as part of their main Transformers franchise, and he also confirms the Bumblebee sequel that will feature Optimus Prime.
“We are already working on two projects and are in the process of writing a script. One is the latest in the main family series following Transformers: The Last Knight King and the other is a sequel to this Bumblebee, So, we are thinking of works where Optimus Prime and Bumblebee will be the buddy (buddy), but when Optimus and Bumblebee are the movies of the protagonists … how human beings get involved in their drama In the first place, the size is different between human beings and theirs …. It’s a worrying point (laughs).
Back in December, Bonaventura revealed that an Optimus Prime standalone film was in the works, it is unclear if that film is still in the studios plans or if they decided to just add Prime to the Bumblebee sequel instead. He also revealed a Transformers animated movie set purely on Cybertron that is still set within the canon and that dwells deep into Cybertronian mythology is also in development.
Bumblebee grossed over $450 million at the worldwide box office. A low for the Transformers franchise. However, the positive critic reviews and strong word of mouth helped give this film a much-needed boost, which the studio obviously loved to see and talks of a sequel heated up.
