Variety reports that Bumblebee star John Cena is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to join James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in an unknown role.
Sources tell Variety that Cena is in talks to board Warner Bros.’ follow-up to “Suicide Squad,” which already stars Idris Elba and Margot Robbie. It’s still unknown who Cena and Elba will be playing. In the pic, the team of supervillains reassembles to stop a major threat.
There is a good chance this could be the part that fellow wrestler Dave Bautista may have turned down to take a leading role in Zack Snyder’s Army of The Dead for Netflix. That role was said to possibly be Peacemaker, another gun expert villain which is likely being added to the film as a replacement for Will Smith’s Deadshot (as Smith won’t be in the film). Another potential villain candidate for Cena could be King Shark.
Idris Elba could also be in the running for Peacemaker, while some have just assumed he’ll end up playing Bronze Tiger.
Returning cast members confirmed include Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, and Jai Courtney.
Filming on The Suicide Squad is said to begin this fall in Atlanta.
Warner Bros. has set the release date for The Suicide Squad on August 6th, 2021.
