It’s starting to look like we might learn more about Nick Fury’s origin than just how he lost his eye in Captain Marvel.
Brie Larson visited Brazil’s CCXP 2019 to promote the upcoming release of Captain Marvel and revealed the project will also explore Nick Fury’s origins along with Carol Danvers. Collider was on hand to catch this quote (transcribed by ScreenRant) from Larson about Fury’s story being covered and hinting that his rise in SHIELD could be incorporated as well.
“It’s actually a Nick Fury origin story as well, as he doesn’t have the eye patch. That’s a very interesting element, isn’t it? You know, they become buddies and I think seeing that dynamic, it’s a more playful side of Fury. It’s before all of these other things have happened, and I think getting to be scene partners with Sam while he got to go back after all of these years of playing this character and basically build this first foundation was just such a treat. I felt like I was part of history.”
Marvel Studios has set the release date for Captain Marvel on March 8th, 2019.
Carol Danvers touches upon the war between the Skrulls and the Kree with Nick Fury. She, herself, is a Kree–a race of “noble warrior heroes.” With no memory of her past, several individuals–leader of Starforce (played by Jude Law), Skrulls leader Talos (played by Mendelsohn), and a mysterious character played by Annette Bening– tell Carol who they think she is as well as her beginning.
Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom. The film stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Rune Temte, Algenis Perez Soto, Mckenna Grace, with Annette Bening, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
