Deadline has revealed that USA Network’s Jason Bourne spin-off series Treadstone has landed actors Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Brian J. Smith (Sense8) in leading roles. They’ve also given us a plot synopsis along with character details of who the actors will be playing in the series.
The series is loosely based on the Matt Damon/Universal Pictures film franchise that focused on the Robert Ludlum character Jason Bourne, who is trained in a secret CIA Black Ops program that basically turns him into a super-assassin. This spin-off show is expected to, like with Bourne Legacy, tackle other characters within this universe and further explore this murky world of killer spies.
Treadstone explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Operation Treadstone — a covert program that uses behavior-modification protocol to turn recruits into nearly superhuman assassins. The first season follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions.
IrviNE stars as J. Randolph Bentley, a spy dispatched by the CIA to eliminate a key target, but ends up embroiled in an international conspiracy. Smith plays Doug McKenna, an all-American oil-rig worker whose life changes after he discovers long-buried truths about himself.
99 Homes director Ramin Bahrani is set to direct Treadstone’s pilot episode.
