Today, Lionsgate announced (via Variety) that their Borderlands movie is moving forward with director Eli Roth (Death Wish, Hostel) set to make the video game film.

The Borderlands’ script comes from Craig Mazin (Chernobyl).

The game is set on the frontier of a sci-fi universe — the planet of Pandora — which has been abandoned by a mega-corporation prior to the game events.

Here is what Roth said in the official press release.

ROTH: “I’m so excited to dive into the world of ‘Borderlands’ and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team, and studio.”

“I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate – I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition. I look forward to bringing my own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game.”

Filming on Borderlands is said to begin later in the year.

A release date has yet to be revealed.
