Deadline is reporting that Bloodshot director David S.F. Wilson has landed his next feature film and it’ll be for Sony Pictures, a sci-fiction thriller titled Influx based on the novel by author Daniel Suarez.
INFLUX – Physicist Jon Grady and his team have discovered a device that can reflect gravity—a triumph that will revolutionize the field of physics and change the future. But instead of acclaim, Grady’s lab is locked down by a covert organization known as the Bureau of Technology Control. The bureau’s mission: suppress the truth of sudden technological progress and prevent the social upheaval it would trigger. Because the future is already here. And it’s rewards are only for a select few. When Grady refuses to join the BTC, he’s thrown into a nightmarish high-tech prison housing other doomed rebel intellects. Now, as the only hope to usher humanity out of its artificial dark age, Grady and his fellow prisoners must try to expose the secrets of an unimaginable enemy—one that wields a technological advantage half a century in the making.
Fear Street screenwriter Zak Olkewicz has been tasked to adapt the novel into a script for the studio.
The big step will be finding an actor to play the lead role of Grady.
Influx might sound like a familiar project to you because it was one of the first feature films Deadpool director Tim Miller was attached to when he bounced from Deadpool 2 back in 2016. The film had been at 20th Century Fox at that time before switching over to Sony.
Miller and Wilson have a connection via their animation house Blur Studio, having worked together for years.
It’ll be certainly interesting to see what Wilson can do with Influx given that it won’t be a comic book adaptation allowing him a little more wiggle-room to establish a personal vision given he now has a feature film under this belt.
While Bloodshot isn’t going to be winning any awards the Vin Diesel film seemed to have filled a void in the VOD market and has been doing well on the format.
