According to Full Circle Cinema, Paul Walter Hauser is being eyed to portray the Penguin in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
No deal has been formally offered at this point, and although this has not been confirmed yet, their reporting is reliable.
The actor has been on a roll as of late, starring in 2017’s critically-acclaimed I, Tonya and Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman. He’s also set to appear in Disney’s live-action Cruella film starring Emma Stone in the titular role.
The character made his first appearance in Detective Comics #58 (December 1941) and was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger.The Penguin is one of Batman’s most enduring enemies and belongs to the collective of adversaries that make up Batman’s rogues gallery.
A recent report claimed that BlacKkKlansman star John David Washington is also in the running to fill out the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery. It’s still early days into the process but hopefully we’ll hear concrete news soon regarding the full cast.
Matt Reeves is looking to shoot the Caped Crusader during the first quarter of 2020, with Rogue One cinematographer Greig Fraser behind the camera.
The Batman will hit theaters on June 25th, 2021.
