Marvel Studios is slowly rolling out their female-driven superhero films and have promised more on the way. They dropped a new poster for Captain Marvel that has revealed a new connection to Scarlett Johansson’s solo Black Widow movie that will shoot next year.
ComicBook has noticed that on the official Captain Marvel the poster it lists Black Widow screenwriter Jac Schaeffer as one of the writers in the film’s credits for the screenplay, something previously unannounced by Marvel Studios or the trades.
According to the poster aka Marvel Studios, Nicole Perlman, Joe Shrapnel, and Anna Waterhouse have story credits while Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and Jac Schaeffer have screenplay credits. Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve is nowhere to be seen and that could be that her contribution got scaled back during rewrites which is very common when scripts undergo varying incarnations.
Will Jac Schaeffer end up becoming the go-to screenwriter for Marvel’s female-centric films? That remains to be seen but she is certainly a surprise addition to the writing team of Captain Marvel, that’s for sure. It does give us the impression that whatever Jac’s contributions to Captain Marvel were, they might have led to her landing the writing gig on Black Widow.
Black Widow has director Cate Shortland attached and is expected to begin filming in the new year taking the production spot originally slated for Guardians of The Galaxy 3, as the film finds a director (Bumblebee’s Travis Knight rumored to be in the mix).
A second trailer for Captain Marvel will be dropping tonight during Monday Night Football, so return later tonight to see that trailer here on HN Entertainment. I’m hoping to see more of the cosmic side of the film since we’re going to see elements of the Kree-Skrull War explored along with those alien societies.
Marvel Studios has set Captain Marvel’s release date for March 8th, 2019.
