Interesting enough, during the filming of Black Panther, the cast had a Coming To America themed birthday party for Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira. I’m a little curious if that production will be seeking some of the actors from Black Panther for new roles.
Akeem (Eddie Murphy) learns about a long lost son and must return to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.
Craig Brewer will be directing the sequel after recently working with Eddie on the film Dolemite Is My Name. HN Entertainment previously revealed that filming is expected to begin on August 8th and could complete their shoot in late October.
The studio is said to be considering bringing back original co-stars Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, Fred Amos, and James Earl Jones.
Paramount Pictures has set the film’s release date for August 7th, 2020.
Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) is the prince of a wealthy African country and wants for nothing, except a wife who will love him in spite of his title. To escape an arranged marriage, Akeem flees to America accompanied by his persnickety sidekick, Semmi (Arsenio Hall), to find his queen. Disguised as a foreign student working in fast food, he romances Lisa (Shari Headley) but struggles with revealing his true identity to her and his marital intentions to his king father (James Earl Jones).
