A year full of comic book blockbusters Marvel Studios Black Panther is taking home the accolade of highest grossing film of the year domestically.

The Ryan Coogler directed film took home over $700 million domestically in the box office, according to Box Office Mojo. Erik Davis, the Managing Editor of Fandango tweeted a congratulations to the film when the news broke.

The rest of the year’s box office hits were mainly superhero and sci-fi films as well. Next up were Incredibles 2 ($608 million), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($416 million) and Deadpool 2 ($318 million).
Black Panther was critical and financial success, the film grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide. The house of mouse  the company is planning a full awards season campaign for Black Panther, including a Best Picture nomination.
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, Andy Serkis and John Kan.
Black Panther will be getting a sequel, which Ryan Coogler will again shoot in 2019.
