Birds of Prey will be expanding upon the Gotham City characters as Suicide Squad did. There is now a report from Deadline that serial killer Batman villain Victor Zsasz will be in the R-Rated DC Comics movie working alongside Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask and will be played by Chris Messina. Chris is best known for his film roles in Ben Affleck directed films such as Argo and Live By Night. His TV credits include Sharp Objects, The Mindy Project, and The Newsroom.
They’re also adding that Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, Francois Chau, and Matthew Willig have joined the film in undisclosed roles.
The new additions will join Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), Rosie Perez (Detective Montoya), and Ella Jay Basco (Cassandra Cain).
Harley Quinn teams up with DC Comics heroines Huntress and Black Canary to protect a young Cassandra Cain from the grasp of Gotham gangster Black Mask. Director Cathy Yan and Margot Robbie have confirmed that the film will be aiming for an R-rating along with signs that it will take more of a humorous take than previous DC movies.
Production on Birds of Prey begins mid-January in Los Angeles and the release date is set for February 7th, 2020.
