Recent Emmy-winner Billy Porter (Pose) may end up voicing the alien man-eating/singing planet Audrey II in the Little Shop of Horrors remake from Warner Bros. according to Collider.
The project is set to be shot in the state of California and will be directed by Greg Berlanti.
After winning an Emmy for the FX series Pose, Billy Porter has Hollywood at his feet, and sources tell Collider that not only is he in talks to join Sony’s new Cinderella movie, but he’s also being eyed to voice the man-eating plant Audrey II in Warner Bros.’ new feature adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors.
They also mention rumored people for the lead roles of humans Seymour and Audrey, reaffirming previous rumblings of Lady Gaga.
Hiring leads with singing abilities are expected as the film is a musical.
Over the years, I’d heard all kinds of casting rumors for Seymour — Ben Platt, Harry Styles, Zac Efron, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and lately there was some chatter about Lady Gaga playing Audrey (depending on who plays the male lead), but I’d never heard anyone linked to the Audrey II voice role.
Let’s keep in mind these aren’t closed deals and that Porter is only being eyed, the other names rumored. So things can change.
Warner Bros. has yet to give Little Shop of Horrors an official release date.
Meek flower shop assistant Seymour pines for co-worker Audrey. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey’s boyfriend, Orin, to the plant after Orin’s accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.
