It doesn’t look like Norman Reedus is the only Walking Dead actor that people want to see play a future Marvel character. This time an actor themselves is putting their hat in the ring to play one.
Actor Ross Marquand (The Walking Dead) has talked to ComicBook about a desire to play Marc Spector aka Moon Knight. Ross voiced the return of the Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War when the studio wasn’t able to convince Hugo Weaving to reprise the role. This tiny detail might allow him to take another role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.
“But on the off chance that that character — I don’t know if he’s out of the MCU, or if he’s free to roam, or whatever — but if he doesn’t come back, I would love to play Moon Knight. Because that’s kind of Marvel’s — he gets compared to Batman a lot, like Marvel’s Batman, but he’s such an amazing character.”
“And what they go into in a later part of the series with his dissociative identity disorder, he has a hard time keeping realities separate from his crime-fighting or if this is all in his head, and he might like actually be going crazy. Which, if you think about it, what superhero wouldn’t kinda be going crazy a little bit if you have an alter ego? I think it would mess with your head. So that’s a character I would love to play.”
Previous rumblings of a Moon Knight series being lined up for Netflix is certainly off the table if that was even being considered. Marvel’s Kevin Feige has suggested they might be interested in a Moon Knight movie in the future. Earlier in the year, Feige speaking with ScreenRant revealed the possibility of Moon Knight getting a film.
Yes. Does that mean five years from now, 10 years from now, 15 years from now? There are stacks of character cards that we have in our, in our development offices, which we look at. Which we pull for him, which we discussed.
When and where that could happen remains to be seen. At least we have someone interested in the role. There may have been a nod to Spector in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Moon Knight, Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley: four different aspects of the same man who was resurrected by Khonshu, the Egyptian Lunar-God of Vengeance and Justice to serve as his “avatar”.
