Baz Luhrmann has finally cast his lead actor for his Elvis biopic!
Deadline reports that Once Upon A Time In America actor Austin Butler has beat out other candidates such as Miles Teller, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harry Styles, and Ansel Elgort for the part.
Director Baz Luhrmann has found his Elvis. He has set Austin Butler to play the star-making role of Elvis Presley in the untitled drama that covers the seminal legend’s growth from dirt poor singer to global icon, seen through the prism of his complex relationship over two decades with manager Colonel Tom Parker. Latter role will be played by Tom Hanks and Warner Bros will distribute worldwide.
Butler will star opposite Tom Hanks, who will play the singer’s longtime manager Colonel Tom Parker.
Filming is said to begin early next year in Queensland, Australia.
With Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) and Rocketman (Elton John) movies making a decent amount of money, I assume studio folks believe the Elvis film will also be able to make some coin as well.
If the film is indeed a hit it will certainly thrust Austin Butler into the spotlight.
Warner Bros. will distribute the film but hasn’t given it an official release date.
