‘Aquaman’ Officially Crosses A Billion – James Wan Nabs Second Billion Dollar Blockbuster

Aquaman has finally done what many thought Batman V Superman and Justice League would deliver when they were announced, it has made a billion dollars at the global box office!

BoxOfficeMojo now states that the domestic total is $287.8 million and $713.4 million giving Aquaman a worldwide total of slightly over a billion dollars. A massive success story for a comic book franchise like the DCU that has had some ups and downs of previous releases.

Aussie director James Wan now has his second billion-dollar blockbuster under his belt as he also helmed Furious 7, that earned a massive $1.5 billion worldwide.

Multiple sequels are all but secured as the studio is reportedly already mulling over an Aquaman 2, despite James Wan seemingly not having made a deal to direct sequels could be looking at a pay raise, not unlike Patty Jenkins for Wonder Woman 1984. I’m really excited to see what happens for team-ups like Justice Leauge in the future as James Wan and Patty Jenkins could collaborate on a big crossover event film.

While Wan’s deal has yet to be made, there is an expectation that cast members like Jason Momoa and Amber Heard are a given to return.

Warner Bros. has yet to make Aquaman 2 announcements official.

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.
