Aquaman is poised to become the most successful modern DC Comics (DCU) movie as it looks to possibly reach a billion dollars at the global box office.
Forbes is now reporting that the film is expected to cross the $800 million mark today, as it’s on track to make more money than either Wonder Woman ($821.8 million) and Batman v Superman ($873.6 million) by next Monday. Making the James Wan film the highest-grossing film in the DCU as it looks to potentially reach a billion dollars globally.
Aquaman has earned around $792m worldwide (including $216m in North America and $277m in China) not counting whatever it earned overseas (outside of China) as of Sunday. I’m confident arguing that it’ll be over $800m worldwide as of today (if it isn’t already). A total above the $873m cume of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is inevitable. So, come what may, Aquaman will be the biggest DC Films flick in global grosses.
When will Warner Bros. officially announce plans for a sequel? That seems to be extremely likely in the near future as the studio is known to announce plans (via trades) very early on in the development process, THR has already revealed early discussions are already happening behind the scenes at WB.
From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.
