‘Aquaman 2’ Reportedly Begins Pre-Production In 2020 and Might Start Shooting In 2021 – Due To James Wan’s Untitled Horror Flick

Yesterday, it was revealed that James Wan would be directing a mysterious untitled horror movie for New Line Cinema before tackling the Aquaman sequel.

Variety has added that because of Wan’s other project it doesn’t look like Aquaman 2 will even start the pre-production phase begin until sometime in 2020.

The plan is for Wan to shoot the film in the fall in Los Angeles and then move into pre-production on the “Aquaman” sequel in 2020.

Given that Wan is expected to begin filming his horror movie this fall in Los Angeles, California seeing the pre-production on Aquaman 2 start once he completes that film makes sense.

I would assume mid-to-late 2020 could be when they kick-off prep for the sequel and leading to the production start in 2021. Usually, prep takes about five to six months for a movie of the scale of Aquaman.

Also, directors don’t start pre-production until they’ve completed the film they’re currently working on. Luckily, given the quick turn around on New Line Cinema horror films, it wouldn’t likely take him too long to complete that project.

Aquaman had been previously given a release date of December 16th, 2022, that sort of indicated that we’d be waiting a bit longer before they started up filming.

Filming on the last installment took place at Village Roadshow Studios in Gold Coast, Australia, I would imagine there is a good shot they’ll return to shoot the sequel at the facility.

It’ll be interesting to see if this horror film from James Wan is set a new installment in The Conjuring Universe or if he is attempting to create something from scratch.

Wan is also producing the new Mortal Kombat movie that will be filming later this year in Australia.
