Every couple of months or years a report pops-up that Marvel Television and ABC Studios are developing a female superhero series.
Today is the day for the next report.
Deadline says that the idea is to get this female superhero project in development as Agents of SHIELD is leaving the network. However, it sounds like this project might something brand new that hasn’t been in development previously.
ABC is in “active talks” about bringing another Marvel female superhero to the network.
The broadcaster is working with its Disney sibling on another comic book adaption. This comes as Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to finish after its upcoming seventh season.
ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told Deadline, “I have spoken to Marvel and we are in active talks about one project in particular.” While she wouldn’t give away any details, she said the character would be “something brand new, mostly” and that the series would fit in with its strategy of female-focused superheroes.
We’ve seen the Marvel Cinematic Universe keep the shows at arm’s length and with Disney+ shows in development, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has said those shows would be directly connected to the films along with impacting future films.
I’ll be interesting if this new series will be another off-shoot like Agents and Netflix shows or will actually be developing characters to be later used in the movies. There is a chance this could simply be a spinoff of Agents but nothing seems to indicate that at the moment.
There are plenty of female superheroes in Marvel Comics that could be prime candidates including Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk, America Chavez aka Miss America, and plenty of Fox characters (Storm, Rogue, Psylocke, Jubilee, and Kitty Pryde) now back at Marvel as well.
Hulu is the home of a wave of new live-action and animated shows that are in various stages of development including a Ghost Rider series.
