The Conjuring Universe is still going on strong after The Nun has become the most successful installment of the franchise. The Nun earned an impressive $364 million global total on a budget of $22 million. They’re already moving forward with two more movies set in the horror universe very soon with Annabelle 3 and The Conjuring 3.
New Line Cinema and producer James Wan didn’t waste much time putting together a third Annabelle movie, and as announced at San Diego Comic-Con over the summer will now have direct ties to the Warrens as most of the film will be taking place in their residence (which holds a collection of objects from their paranormal investigations) as a pair of babysitters are keeping an eye on their daughter, who the Annabelle doll targets.
The sixth title in The Conjuring franchise picks up with the Warrens bringing the Annabelle doll to a place where she can no longer wreak havoc: their Artifacts Room. Annabelle awakens the room’s evil which sets its sights on a new target: the Warrens’ ten-year-old daughter Judy.
We have learned that the horror sequel’s crew will include Shazam! production designer Jennifer Spence (Lights Out, The Nun, Insidious: Chapter 2, Annabelle: Creation) and special effects supervisor Mark Hawker (The New Mutants, Gemini Man, A Quiet Place, Annabelle: Creation).
Annabelle 3 will be the feature film directorial debut for screenwriter Gary Dauberman (IT, IT: Chapter 2, The Nun, Swamp Thing) and filming is said to be underway in Los Angeles, Californa with an expected wrap on December 20th.
The cast consists of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reprising their roles as the Warrens, McKenna Grace (Captain Marvel) as their daughter Judy along with Madison Iseman (Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, Goosebumps 2) and Katie Sarife (Supernatural) playing Judy’s babysitters.
Annabelle 3 isn’t the only Conjuring film on the horizon as Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona) was recently announced as taking over directing duties from James Wan on The Conjuring 3, production is expected to begin next summer.
Warner Bros. has set the sequel’s release date for July 3rd, 2019.
