Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a large scale animated Transformers film to act as a prequel and will be set on Cybertron. The project has been in development for a while now as it’s mentioned the screenwriters have worked on the film for years.
They’ve reportedly hired Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley with a script penned by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, the pair wrote Marvel’s Ant-Man & The Wasp.
We recently got a glimpse of Cybertron in Paramount’s soft-reboot Bumblebee, which took more inspiration from the original animated series designs rather than the ones used by Michael Bay in his original string of feature films.
I’m a little curious if this will be traditional “animation” of if they’ll be simply removing the live-action elements/human actors out of the equation (like with the Bumblebee opening sequences) as you can’t exactly call a film with CGI environments and characters live-action.
A sequel to Bumblebee has been in development at the studio.
Are you excited to see Paramount moving forward with their Cybertron film?
