Amy Sedaris Joins Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ Remake

Disney’s upcoming remake of its classic 1994 animated film The Lion King will add voice actress Amy Sedaris, who has worked with director Jon Favreau in Elf and Chef.

According to a report from Variety, Sedaris will take on the role of an elephant shrew. Elephant shrews also known as jumping shrews or sengis are small mammals that feed on insects. The elephant shrews are native to Africa and derive their name from their long snout that resembles the trunk of an elephant. No details about Sedaris’ character other than the fact she will give voice to the elephant shrew were revealed.

Directed by Jon Favreau, the film stars Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Eric Andre as Azizi, Florence Kasumba as Shenzi, Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari, JD McCrary as Young Simba and Shahadi Wright Joseph as Young Nala.

Hans Zimmer is on board composing the film as he did the 1994 animated classic. Elton John and Tim Rice will also be returning, as they are set to collaborate with Beyoncé on a new song.

The Lion King will hit theaters on July 19, 2019.
