Variety reports that British actor Will Poulter is the latest addition to the cast of Amazon’s Lord of The Rings series. Will is now the second cast member to be announced by the trades, the other being Australian actress Markella Kavenagh.
Although, his role in the series is currently undisclosed at this time.
Will’s credits include Midsommar, Son of Rambo, The Revenant, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, and Detroit.
He was originally tapped to play Pennywise The Dancing Clown in the first IT remake film before the role went to Bill Skarsgard instead, so there is a chance his character could have villainous intentions.
There is a good chance we might end up seeing an earlier version of Sauron and his minions before he tricked ancient kingdoms of Middle-Earth with his offerings of the Rings of Power only to see those rivals fall or be seduced by Sauron’s newfound dark power.
It’s also said that the first season might be an impressive 20-episodes, although, that hasn’t been officially confirmed by Amazon.
The series, however, is confirmed to take place during the Second Age of Middle-Earth, many many years before the events of The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings film trilogies.
While we’ve seen hobbits such as Bilbo Baggins and Frodo Baggins take lead roles in their respective trilogies, it’s unknown if we’ll be returning to the Shire in the new show as they will have plenty of unexplored kingdoms to cover and brand new characters as well.
There is an expectation that the series will be ready to be streamed sometime in 2021.
