Amazon Confirms That ‘Gone Girl’s Rosamund Pike Will Indeed Lead Their Fantasy Series ‘The Wheel of Time’ As Moiraine

Yesterday, Amazon made it official that Oscar-nominated actress Rosamund Pike (A Private War, Gone Girl) will indeed lead their upcoming fantasy series The Wheel of Time based on the novels by Robert Jordan. The streaming service made their announcement via the official Wheel of Time writers’ room account on Twitter.

Confirming that Pike would be playing the role of Moiraine.

Recapped first revealed the casting news over the weekend and was later backed up by DiscussingFilm.

Set in an epic world where magic exists but only women can use it, “The Wheel of Time” follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the “Aes Sedai,” as she embarks on a dangerous journey with five young men and women across the world. Moiraine is interested in these five “because she believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, who prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it”.

The Wheel of Time is one of the many fantasy series Amazon is developing which includes a Lord of The Rings show that would take place during The Second Age of Middle-Earth and at one point they were trying to develop a series based on Robert E. Howard’s Conan The Barbarian novels.

Pike is about to begin filming I Care A Lot next month in Boston, which would likely mean The Wheel of Time won’t begin shooting until sometime in the fall.

The Wheel of Time doesn’t have an official drop/release date but will likely happen sometime in 2020.
