Hot off her Academy Award win for her performance in I, Tonya, Allison Janney has booked her next project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Janney is set to star in Lou, a dramatic thriller from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production banner.
Anna Foerster, best known for her work on TV’s Outlander and Jessica Jones, is helming the project, which will be produced by Abrams and Braden Aftergood (Hell or High Water).
The film was originally set up at Paramount Pictures, who have almost exclusively worked with Bad Robot Productions, but the studio put the movie into turnaround and now the production company is seeking to raise funding the finance the movie independently, with a spring 2019 start to production set.
The film follows a young woman and her landlord must track down her child after she’s kidnapped by her estranged and presumed dead husband. The film is described as Thelma & Louise meets Taken.
Janney will play Louis “Lou” Adell, a hard-shelled and rule-breaking woman that has unexpectedly impressive tracking abilities, among other skill sets.
Louis will begin production next April in Vancouver. With a budget of $25 million. A release date has not been given for the film as of yet.
