Sadly, it looks like Alien: Blackout is just a mobile game and this is certainly disappointing as we had been expecting some sort of first-person-shooter. Although, it seems to be expanding upon the Amanda Ripley saga.
The terror of Alien is brought to life in Alien: Blackout. Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.
Survive seven fear-inducing levels by remotely guiding Amanda Ripley’s crew through increasingly challenging tasks using only the station’s emergency systems. The uncertainty and unpredictability of both the alien and her crew can impose total defeat for Amanda and the entire station.
Alien: Blackout is a unique fear-inducing horror mobile game experience that will test the inner nerves of both Alien and horror fans alike, where life can end in an instant.
However, that might actually still be another game that is being developed by Fox’s Cold Iron Studios, a game developer that Fox recently acquired. Cold Iron Studios’ own website boasts in the careers section that the game is indeed a shooter for both consoles and PC.
This was recently reaffirmed in the recent press release for Alien: Blackout (via AVPGalaxy). Adding key details such as the untitled game will be a massively multiplayer online shooter, the MMO element seems to be a new addition to the game’s makeup.
FoxNext Games’ studio, Cold Iron Studios, is also currently at work on a massively multiplayer online shooter set in the Alien cinematic universe for consoles and PC.
I think everyone is curious to see what they’re doing here as it certainly sounds like a bigger game project than previous installments like Alien vs Predator, Aliens: Colonial Marines, or even Alien: Isolation.
