TheHollywoodReporter has revealed that Gina Prince-Bythewood’s comic book action film The Old Guard has added Marwan Keznari, the Dutch played Jafar in Disney’s recent hit Aladdin (a remake of the animated film). The Netflix film based on the comic book of the same name from Image Comics already stars Charlize Theron (Atomic Blonde, Mad Max: Fury Raod) and KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk).
Marwan Kenzari, who plays Jafar in Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake, has joined Charlize Theron and Kiki Layne in The Old Guard, Skydance and Netflix’s adaptation of the comic from author Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez.
We confirmed that filming would take place at Shepperton Studios.
A small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy, who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.
HN previously posted that the film’s production team includes production designer Paul Kirby (Hellboy, Kingsman: The Secret Service), stunt coordinator Brycen Counts (Ant-Man and The Wasp, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home), 2nd unit director Jeff Habberstad (Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and The Wasp), and fight choreographer Daniel Hernandez (Logan, John Wick 1-3, Avengers: Endgame, Birds of Prey).
Netflix has yet to announce an official release date for The Old Guard.
