Actress Daniela Melchior Indeed Taking The Ratcatcher Role In James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad’

Yesterday, our pals at OmegaUnderground/GWW first revealed that newcomer Daniela Melchior was in the mix to play DC Comics villain Ratcatcher (a female version) in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

The GWW has learned that Gunn is eyeing Isabela Moner and Daniela Melchior for the role of “Ratcatcher,” a gender-bent version of the Batman villain of the same name. There are other actresses in the mix as well that we weren’t able to identify.

Ratcatcher will be “Latina, an idealist, an innocent, a complainer, a warrior for goodness, and a lazy millennial all wrapped into one.” In the comics, Ratcatcher is an exterminator who can communicate with rats and has an affinity for poisonous gas.

Just moments ago, their reporting was just confirmed by Variety, who added she has taken the role in the sequel.

Daniela joins previously announced cast members Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Idris Elba (as Peacekeeper?), John Cena (King Shark?), and David Dastmalchian as The Polka-Dot Man.

It remains to be seen if Gunn will be allowed to go R-rated with the sequel as director Cathy Yan and producer Margot Robbie are already aiming for a mature rating for the Birds of Prey movie coming out on February 7th, 2020. There is a good chance The Suicide Squad could go that route as well.

Warner Bros. has set the release for The Suicide Squad for August 6th, 2021.
