Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ansel Elgort, Harry Styles, and Others In The Mix To Lead Baz Lurman’s ‘Elvis Presley’ Movie Starring Tom Hanks

Deadline reports a slew of candidates currently in the mix to play Elvis Presley in Baz Lurman’s upcoming biopic starring Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker.

They suggest a list of hopefuls that have screen-tested for the role Elvis includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Tenet, The Avengers, The King’s Man, Kick-Ass), Miles Teller (Too Old To Die Young, Top Gun: Maverick, Whiplash ), Harry Styles (Dunkirk), Ansel Elgort (West Side Story, Baby Driver), and Austin Bulter (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, The Dead Don’t Die).

Apparently, Baz will make his choice by next week.

Aaron has some experience playing legendary musicians as he played a young John Lennon of the little known Liverpool rock band The Beatles in Nowhere Boy directed by his future wife Sam Taylor-Johnson.

Ansel will be showing off his musical chops in Steven Speilberg’s West Side Story which has begun filming in New York City.

Harry Styles has some of the least amount of acting experience of the bunch, but happens to be an accomplished musician and could greatly help his chances of landing the part, which I assume would involve actual singing.

The film is said to chronicle the relationship between a young Elvis and his manager Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). It’ll be interesting to see if we’ll get a darker side to Hanks in the film as Parker didn’t have the greatest reputation and was said to be extremely controlling of Elvis’ career throughout their time together.

A release date has yet to be set for the film.
