The Wrap reports that A Wrinkle in Time star Storm Reid is being eyed to join James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad as Idris Elba’s daughter.
Her potential role is currently undisclosed, as well as Idris Elba’s mystery character. Rumors have pointed to Elba playing Bronze Tiger or Sportsmaster, but neither the studio nor the trades have confirmed who it is. The report adds that although there is no deal in place, Reid is the top contender.
The up and coming actress has made the mainstream after starring in Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time and the critically-acclaimed Netflix series When They See Us, based around the Central Park Five.
Reid would join the cast that consists of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Idris Elba, John Cena (possibly as Peacekeeper), David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man, and Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher.
James Gunn is both directing and writing the soft reboot of the DC property. The first film, directed by David Ayer, was successful in bringing the Suicide Squad to mainstream audiences despite being poorly received.
The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6th, 2021.
